Ivorian Leader Snubs Peace Talks
Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo, has said that he will not attend new wave of peace talks being brokered by ECOWAS in Abuja, Nigeria. Though no reason was given, President Gbagbo maintains that South Africa?s mediation efforts are adequate to guarantee peace in the divided country.

DR Congo Army Commander Aims for LRA rebels
A senior DRC military commander has sought permission to forcibly disarm about 400 Lords resistance army rebels in his country. General Padiri Bulenda says the Ugandan rebels who have crossed into the northeast of DRC from Uganda are refusing to lay down their weapons. The Ugandan government has been fighting the rebels for nearly two decades in a war that has displaced about 1.6 million people.

Nigerian peacekeepers censured over sexual misconduct
Nigeria has suspended 11 police officers for sexual misconduct while serving with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The suspended officers are part of a group of 120, recalled from the DRC earlier this month for similar offences.

Togolese government balmed over post Eyadema violence
A newly released United Nations report has put blame on the Togolese authorities, for the death of nearly 500 people killed in violent clashes earlier this year. Violence first erupted in Togo in February, when the death of President Gnassinge Eyadema brought his 38-year rule to a sudden end and prompted his son Faure Gnassinge to seize power.
