29 INJURED IN ZANZIBAR ELECTION VIOLENCE
At least 29 people from rival political parties have been injured in Zanzibar due to violence ahead of the October elections. The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi and the opposition Civic United Front clashed with metal bars and stones on Sunday night. 40 People were killed in Zanzibar?s last elections in 2000.

DEBT CANCELLED BUT NO RELIEF ON TRADE
The world-bank and the IMF have now agreed on debt relief for the world's developing nations. However, the World Bank president, Paul Wolfowitz says there is need to push for a free trade pact to accelerate the fight against poverty. Aid agency Oxfam says that, for every $1 of aid wealthy nations give to Africa, they take back $2 through unfair trade rules.

WOMEN?S RUGBY ENTERTAINS KENYAN FANS
Over the weekend Kenyan fans were treated to a thriller when six women's teams played in the annual Kabeberi Sevens rugby tournament. Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda were on show to give the fans a taste of the potential in the women's game. The Kababeri sevens tournament is the second of the Kenya Rugby Football Union national sevens circuit.

UGANDA PAYS CNN US$1M IN PUBLICITY DEAL
The Ugandan government has paid the CNN 1 million US dollars, to promote tourism in that country. According to the deal, Uganda will sponsor the 'Inside Africa' show on CNN for the next six months. Ugandan Minister of Tourism Jovino Akaki blamed local journalists for concentrating on the negative instead of the positive side of Uganda. Also the Ugandan government has engaged a British public relations firm, at a cost of 950 thousand US dollars to better the country?s image in the international media.
