IMF FINALISES DEBT RELIEF TO DEVELOPING NATIONS
A landmark agreement to forgive billions in debt owed by poor countries is in its final stages of approval by the IMF. The deal is set to benefit most of Africa's developing nations and now awaits ratification by IMF's 24 member executive board. The debt relief would cancel outstanding loans of about 18 countries with an estimated 40 billion US dollars. However, the agreement still has to be approved by the World Bank before its implementation.

HUNGER CLAIMS 29 IN MALAWI
At least 29 Malawian children have died from hunger-related illnesses at Nsanje district hospital. According to Malawi?s Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit, the hospital is experiencing an increase in admissions due to hunger. NRU fears that more deaths will occur in the coming months if immediate action is not taken. Recently, the World Food Programme has called for more food aid to the Southern African region currently facing a severe drought.

YET ANOTHER WIFE FOR KING MSWATI III
Swaziland's King Mswati the third has picked yet another wife. 17-year-old Phindile Nkambule becomes King Mswati?s 13th wife after being picked during a reed dance ceremony held last month. About 4000 maidens turned up for the traditional ceremony as a celebration of their chastity. According to Swazi custom, the King will only formally be married to Nkambule after she falls pregnant. The custom also dictates that the King takes a wife every year.
