UGANDAN REBEL LEADER SEEKS ASYLUM IN DRC
The second in command of Uganda's rebel movement, the Lord Resistance Army has sought political asylum in the DRC. About 50 LRA rebels commanded by Vincent Otti crossed into the country a week ago. However, the DRC government has asked the rebels to surrender peacefully, warning that it would use force to disarm them. The LRA has been fighting the Ugandan government for the past 19 years, in a civil war that has displaced over 1.4 million people.

LIBYA: GADHAFI URGES MORE AFRICAN COOPERATION
Libyan leader, Colonel Moammar Gadhafi has urged an end to Customs barriers among AU member nations. Speaking with visiting Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni in Tripoli on Friday, President Gadhafi also called for the unification of telecommunication and transport systems, as part of the United States of Africa idea. Yoweri Museveni is in Libya as part of the AU presidential commission, set up for the preparatory work to implement the proposals.

GAMBIA CRUSH OUT OF YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS
Gambia has crashed out of Fifa's Under-17 World Championship in Peru after a 2-0 drubbing by Holland last night. The African champions crashed out of the tournament on goal difference after Brazil?s 6-0 thrashing of Qatar. Gambia, however, bow out of the tournament gracefully, having defeated big giants Brazil and Qatar in their first two matches.
