MILITANTS SHUT OIL FACILITIES AS LEADER APPEARS IN COURT
This mornings update begins in Nigeria, where militia fighters have stormed and shut down a Chevron oil flow-station in the Niger Delta. The Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force is threatening to close other oil installations unless their leader, Moujahid Dokubo-Asari is released. Dokubo-Asari was arrested early this week on treason charges. The Nigerian government has dispatched the army into the area and vowed to end the violence.

Cote d´ Voire President says no further talks with rebels
Moving across to the Ivory Coast, President Laurent Gbagbo, has ruled out further peace talks with the rebels in the north. Speaking in Abdijan yesterday, President Gbagbo accused the rebels of failing to disarm as agreed in the South African mediated peace deal. Gbagbo also rejected UN proposals to replace South African mediation with the Economic Community of West African States.

Liberian presidential candidates attend peace concert
And in Liberia, In a bid to promote peace in the country?s upcoming polls, all 22 Presidential candidates attended a peace concert earlier this week. Organised by the United Nations. The concert, hosted by the United Nations is the first since the end of Liberia?s 14-year civil war. Former World footballer of the year, George Weah is among the favourites to be the next president.
