Mbeki Lashes UN Over Nuclear Weapons
Beginning at the UN where: South African President Thabo Mbeki has lashed out at world leaders for failing to rid the globe of weapons of mass destruction or WMD?s. Departing from his usual quiet diplomacy, Mbeki told the just ended UN summit that the issue of non-proliferation and disarmament of WMD?s is being dealt with in an undemocratic manner. South Africa is among the only countries that voluntarily dismantled its weapons of mass destruction.

Kenya Recalls Ambasador Over Sex Scandal
Moving into East Africa: Kenya has recalled its envoy to the United States for alleged sexual harassment. The recall of Leonard Ngaithe came after one of his junior Embassy staff, reported that he had allegedly assaulted her. A statement from Kenya?s Foreign Affairs ministry revealed that investigations are on going. Ngaithe had represented Kenya in the US for less than two years.

?Ivory Coast Government and Rebels Have Failed Peace Deal? ? SA Defence Minister
And in West Africa: South Africa?s defense minister has blamed the Ivory Coast government and rebels for failing to implement the peace deal signed earlier this year. Addressing the UN Security Council, Minister Mosiuoa Lekota however warned, that proposed sanctions would derail the fragile peace process. Ivory Coast, the world's largest cocoa producer remains divided after a failed coup attempt in 2002.

Windfall For African Associations
In sport: The African Football Confederation (CAF) President Issa Hayatou has anounced the allocation of 100 thousand US Dollars to national associations across Africa. The funds are to improve the infrastructure and introduce good governance in African football. The CAF meeting was held on the fringes of the 55th Ordinary FIFA Congress, the first to take place on African soil.
