Egypt Struggles to seal border

Egypt - Dozens of Palestinians have defied the deadline to leave Egypt before the sealing of the Gaza border. Palestinians have been crossing illegally into Egypt ever since Israel quit the Gaza Strip last Monday. Under an agreement, Egypt has regained the responsibility to marshal the border and prevent weapons smuggling. Palestinian militants have been known to use the Gaza border for arms smuggling.

Darfur Rebels Threaten War

Darfur rebels have rejected Chad as an honest broker in the AU mediation efforts. Addressing the opening of the sixth round of the Darfur peace talks in Nigeria, rebel leader, Bahar Abagada accused Chad of colluding with the Sudanese Government to derail the peace process. He also threatened to return to war if provoked by the government. Abagada further criticized the AU for turning a blind eye on the continued ceasefire violations by Khartoum.

Nigerian Governor Arrested for money laundering

A Nigerian Governor has been arrested in London on allegations of money laundering. Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was arrested at Heathrow Airport on enroute from Germany late Thursday. The British High Commissioner, Mr. Richard Gozney confirmed the arrest. Gozney added that the British and Nigerian governments are working closely to fight rampant money laundering in Nigeria.

Kenya: Police and Army Face-Off

In Boxing: Kenyan Police and the armed forces have renewed their rivalry in the National Boxing League. The tournament began yesterday, at Madison Square Garden in the Nakuru Disctrict, 160 kilometres west of Nairobi. The Police contenders are looking to turn the tables on the reining army team which has beaten them in previous meetings. Both teams boast internationals boxers such as Frederick ?Tabu? Orieyo for the army and James ?heavyweight? Wasao for the police. Results are expected later today.
