LRA Strikes in Southern Sudan
In central Africa: A group of about 40 raiders believed to be fighters of the Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army rebel movement have attacked villages in southern Sudan. The group struck earlier this week, setting homes on fire and abducting several people.
The Lord?s Resistance Army, which has fought against the Ugandan government for nearly two decades is said to have bases in some parts of southern Sudan.

Mugabe Points Finger At West
And at the UN: Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has accused the rich and powerful nations of derailing his country's economic revival by imposing unilateral sanctions. Speaking at the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly, he said his country's progress on the Millennium Development Goals had been hampered by recurrent droughts, HIV and AIDS, and illegal sanctions. He also accused the west of using the UN to punish poor, smaller and weak nations. Zimbabwe is currently facing the worst economic challenges with chronic food and fuel shortages.

New Hunger Crisis in Eastern Sudan
Still at the UN Summit where Sudan's foreign minister has blasted the west for ignoring a new hunger crisis in Eastern Sudan. Mustafa Osman Ismail said the West only acts when situations become full-blown humanitarian disasters. According to UN figures 180 thousand people have died in Darfur over the past two years.

Nigeria Police Arrest Child Traffickers
Returning to West Africa where: Nigerian police have arrested seven employees of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for alleged child trafficking. A senior ministry official said the police in Enugu State arrested a welfare principal officer who had been found with a three-year old boy. This led to further arrests of six other employees in connection with similar cases.

A First For Ethiopian Rugby Team
And in sport: The Ethiopian National Rugby Team is in Nairobi, Kenya to take part in the prestigious Safari Sevens Rugby Tournament. The youthful squad will compete against the under-19?s Seven-a-side Rugby teams from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania over the weekend. Rugby was introduced to Ethiopia only last year.
