North Africa: Egypt decides today
Egypt?s first multi party elections are going on today.
President Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled Egypt for 24 years, is nearly certain to win today?s vote.

Still in the North: Taya returns
The deposed president of Mauritania, Maaouya Ould Sid'Ahmad Taya, will be allowed to return to his country from exile in Qatar.
He will also be allowed to take part in Mauritania's political process.
The military Junta which overthrew Taya have promised to hold transparent elections within two years.
Taya himself came to power in a coup in December 1984 and was re-elected 3 times before he was ousted in August this year.

South: At least 8 dead in Mozambique clashes
Clashes between the two main political parties in Mozambique have left at least eight people dead and more than 29 others injured.
The fighting erupted on Sunday in the northern town of Mocimboa da Praia.
The skirmish began after the oposition Renamo Party had installed a parallel local government asserting that the ruling Frelimo Party had rigged the May twenty first local municipal elections.

Southern Africa: Floor Crossing changes SA politics
The floor crossing window is reshaping the South African political landscape.
Five members of parliament have left the Inkhatha Freedom Party to join the newly formed National Democratic Convention (Nadeco). More defections from the smaller opposition parties have marked the first week of the floor crossing period in South African parliamentary institutions.
Floor Crossing is the period that allows members of the assembly to move to other parties without losing their parliamentary seats.

Sport: Kenya wins AJAC in Tunisia
Kenya has won the African Junior Athletics Championships in Tunisia.
Godfrey Rono took the 800 metres Mercy Wanjiku the 3,000 and Moses Masai won the 5,000 metre race to catapult Kenya to the top.
Kenya takes home nine gold, three silver and two bronze.

Sport: ? Bafana Bafana not seeing 2006
South Africa?s world cup soccer dreams are in shambles. Not only have they lost entry into the 2006 finals, but they are also struggling to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Bafana Bafana have now slipped to third place, three points behind the leaders Ghana.
