Why This Women’s Conference

We are in the process of building powerful African Women’s and Youth Movements throughout the world that will connect all African women and youth, inside and outside of Africa. This is a very important part of the African independence movement. An African Women’s movement is necessary to educate, mobilize, and organize the largest number of African Women as possible. Our vision includes collectively solving our problems to obtain good childcare, housing, collective kitchens, transportation, healthcare, clean drinking water for all and employment/skills, etc. We must build a strong infrastructure in Africa and we must be tightly organized outside of Africa.

In Africa, we say, “Women are the Water of the Revolution.” And just as life is not possible without water, the struggle of the liberation of Africa and African people is not possible without the full participation of African women in every aspect of the liberation struggle. The struggle of African women cannot be waged and pursued outside of the context of the struggle of our People for the liberation and emancipation, just as the freedom of Africa cannot be effective if it does not lead, concretely, to the liberation of the women of Africa.

There have been five major types of production relationships known to man --communalism, slavery, feudalism, capitalism, and socialism…. The communal stage was 90% of humanities existence. We must understand that historically, women were not oppressed during the communal stage. Nobody was oppressed during this time. All held women in high esteem. Women were the collective organizers of society. Under communalism, for example, all land and means of production belonged to the community. There was people’s ownership. Labor was the need and habit of all. When a certain piece of land was allocated to an individual for personal use, one was not free to do, as one liked with it since it still belonged to the community. Chiefs were strictly controlled by counselors and were removable.

As communalism gave way to slavery and feudalism, and private property relationships emerged, then exploitation of human beings began. This is the basis of the exploitation of women and women hating. The Women’s Emancipation movement is not a movement of women against men, but a struggle against exploitation. Today, we are struggling to build a society that is non-exploitative in the modern context.

The first requirement for all people desiring to control history and their destiny, is organization. History teaches us that defective organization is better than the total absence of organization, for, at least organized people are capable of analyzing the functioning of their organization and if finding that this function is defective, correcting it in one way or another.

We want to build up the love amongst women where we see other Sisters’ problems as our own. Women are the primary educators of all the youth, both girls and boys. We want our youth to join and build organizations working for the independence, unity and self-sufficiency of the people. We want to teach our children to love all of humanity to love life and therefore to love women. We want to teach our children to have a good work ethic so that they can work for the liberation of our people. We want to teach our children to be proud that they are African. We want to teach our children the importance of organization and to challenge them to build an African Youth Movement. We want to teach our children to fight against individualism and to fight for collectivism: The family is more important than the individual. The Community is more important than the family. The Nation is more important than the Community. All of humanity is more important than the Nation. We want to teach our children humanism and to respect every human being just because they are human beings. We want to teach our children that there is nothing more important than independence and liberation. We want to teach our children to struggle for Africa to be one country.

We look forward to your participation at this awesome Conference!
