= NVIWODA launches Luganda version of website
Ntulume Village Women's Development Association (NVIWODA) launches the 
Luganda version of its website at <http://www.nviwoda.interconnection.org>. 
The website was developed with the support of an online volunteer from 
InterConnection.org

= EASSI: Report of Sub-regional Decade Review Meeting on the Implementation 
of the Beijing Platform for Action in Eastern Africa, Kigali, Rwanda, 2-4 
June 2004
The Intergovernmental Meeting of Experts took place in Kigali, Rwanda from 
2-4 June 2004 to review the implementation of the Dakar and Beijing 
Platforms 10 years after their adoption.  The meeting was preceded by a 
Forum of NGOs and Civil Society organizations which was held at the same 
venue from 31 May to 1 June 2004.  The Meeting received a comprehensive 
report from the NGO Forum and listened to presentations by UN Agencies 
including UNIFEM and Habitat.  The Meeting endorsed most of the conclusions 
and proposals emanating from the NGO and Civil Society group and further 
decided to adopt the document as one of the basis of their assessment of 
the Beijing process.  The meeting subsequently undertook an extensive 
review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform taking stock of the 
progress achieved, constraints and challenges, and reflecting on the way 
forward.  In doing so, participants looked at policy issues, legislative 
achievements, conventions as well as the overall environment surrounding 
the circumstances under which member countries exerted efforts for the 
attainment of objectives and targets in the Beijing Platform?s twelve (12) 
areas of concentration.

(Nuffic)
The Nuffic website provides information and news about the NPT and NFP 
educational programmes offered in the Netherlands. The overall aim is to 
help alleviate qualitative and quantitative shortages of skilled manpower 
within framework of sustainable capacity-building in developing countries.

c) Human Rights

= GBV Prevention Network website
The GBV Prevention Network website is a virtual community for the 100+ 
member organizations in the Horn, East and Southern Africa working to 
prevent gender-based violence (GBV). It is the first of it's kind in the 
region and a resource for activists and practitioners in Africa and beyond.

= Uganda Software Services Association (USSA)
Uganda Software Services Association (USSA) is a membership based 
organisation whose main objectives include maintaining close interaction 
with the Government of Uganda in formulating IT policies related to 
software and to represent members' interests and improving education and 
training of software services in Uganda by having strong links with 
educational institutions. The birth of USSA was a result of a forum for 
software development in Uganda that was initiated by the Uganda Investment 
Authority.

= SmallArmsNet
SmallArmsNet is an information portal for groups and individuals working to 
contain the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Africa. An 
initiative of the Arms Management Programme (AMP) of the Institute for 
Security Studies (ISS), South Africa, it is an information hub for small 
arms and arms related issues affecting the continent.

= Twaja-Twaja Gift-Awarding Ceremony, August 21, 2004, Mengo
Mengo Youth Development Link (MYDEL) hosted a gift-awarding ceremony on 
21st August 2004. The function started at 4:00pm with a luncheon and ended 
at 8:00pm in Mengo.
During the gift awarding ceremony, beneficiaries called ?Abagole? received 
gifts from fellow group members. The Abagole were members of ?Twaja-Twaja 
Women?s Group? - We Strive for Development. Twaja-Twaja Women?s Group is an 
affiliate of Mengo Youth Development Link (MYDEL). It is one of the 
organisations that MYDEL empowers through capacity building programmes, 
gives minimal financial support and general advice, for sustainability.

NVIWODA: Seminar on women and health: Access to HIV/AIDS antiretroviral
Ntulume Village Women's Development Association (NVIWODA) in partnership 
with Development of Antiretroviral Therapy (DART) in Africa Project of 
Joint Clinical Research Centre, on 26th August 2004 conducted a half-day 
seminar on women and health, in regard to availing information and access 
to HIV/AIDS antiretroviral.
Thirty (30) members of NVIWODA, drawn from the project area of Kampala 
District, participated in the seminar. English and Luganda languages were 
used as a mode of communication.
Participants actively participated in the seminar due to a friendly 
environment.  The frequently asked question, ?Is there hope to eliminate 
HIV/AIDS in Africa and who, would remain uninfected?? was asked by the women.

= WOUGNET invited for AITEC Uganda Annual Exhibition, September 15-17, 2004
AITEC Uganda has provided WOUGNET a complementary exhibition stand in the 
ICT for Development pavilion. The AITEC Annual Exhibition will be held on 
September 15-17, 2004 at the Nile Hotel Kampala. The exhibition will focus 
on telecommunications, Internet and computing solutions for Uganda?s 
increasingly sophisticated corporate and government user needs.
In response to this invitation, WOUGNET proposes to showcase activities of 
WOUGNET and WOUGNET members with regards to ICT for Development. We thus 
call upon members that are interested in participating at the WOUGNET stand
