WOMEN ORGANISATIONS IN UGANDA The Ugandan Coalition for Political Accountability to Women (COPAW) and the Dutch development Organisation SNV have signed a three-year cooperation agreement in which SNV pledges to support COPAW strengthen her institutional capacity. This is in light of the fact that "COPAW is a young Organisation driven by ambitious but noble aspirations" to make politics gender responsive through increasing women's participation. Other aspects of the cooperation include using existing SNV local governance experiences to enhance the networking and linkages amongst civil society organizations, contributing to the development of a joint agenda between the women in leadership and the civil society organizations and strategic fund raising for long-term activities. http://www.wougnet.org/Documents/EASSI/copaw.html#SNV 2. LINKS AND RESOURCES a) Women & Gender = Human Strategies for Human Rights Human Strategies for Human Rights (HSHR) is a United States based non profit organization that provides grassroots NGOs with on-site organizational capacity building, personnel empowerment training and strategic guidance in the promotion and protection of human rights. Most of HSHR's work is targeted towards NGOs that work on women's political and economic empowerment and legal literacy. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/aboutwomen.html#HSHR = Organisation for Women in Water, Electricity & Gas in Africa (OWWEGA) Throughout history, women have taken charge of the collection, distribution and purification of energy and water resources to sustain their communities and families (sadly a difficult challenge still facing many rural women today). It is however positive to see that the number and profile of women in the African Electricity, Water and Gas industries are growing - as is evident as more and more women hold top positions in both the public and private utility sectors. OWWEGA was founded to celebrate the role of women in both industrialised and rural societies. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/aboutwomen.html#OWWEGA = Women Waging Peace Women Waging Peace, a multiyear collaborative venture of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, connects women addressing conflicts worldwide. The initiative breaks new ground by recognizing the essential role and contribution of women in preventing violent conflict, stopping war, and sustaining peace in fragile areas around the world. Waging brings together women from diverse areas of conflict around the world to share peace building strategies, sharpen skills, and shape public policy. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/aboutwomen.html#WWP b) Development = IDEA: Gender and Political Participation The Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA)'s objective is to promote and advance sustainable democracy and to improve and consolidate electoral processes world-wide. In this regard, IDEA is committed to contributing to the debate to advance gender and democracy issues in general, and to promote women's participation and representation in political life. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/development.html#IDEAG c) ICT-related organisations = Youth Network on ICTs and Digital Opportunities Young people can and are harnessing the power of information and communications technologies (ICTs) to assure opportunity, empowerment, and inclusion for all. The "Youth, ICTs and Digital Opportunities" portal was launched on 1 February 2002 to enable young people from around the world to share their experiences on how ICTs can further development. The site features news, people, events, organizations and online discussions about closing the digital divide. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/ictresources.html#YIDO = Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) is an international non-profit organization.
