In addition to African history titles, we select articles from 146 European, American, and Indian journals. Today, the ViVa database contains bibliographic records describing more than 6,500 articles published between 1975 and 2001 in historical and women's studies journals. The ViVa Web Database is maintained by the International Institute of Social History. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/aboutwomen.html#VIVA = Women's History Virtual Library The main purpose of the Women's History Virtual Library is to list women's history institutions and organizations, locate archival and library collections, and provide links to Internet resources on women's history. In addition, also included are a list of women's studies journals and a few comprehensive link collections useful as a starting point for searching the Internet for women's studies in general. The Women's History Virtual Library is maintained by the International Institute of Social History. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/aboutwomen.html#WHVL b) Business = Resource Centre for the Social Dimensions of Business Practice The Resource Centre for the Social Dimensions of Business Practice is a UK Department for International Development (DFID) funded Resource Centre that seeks to engage business more effectively and systematically in poverty elimination. The Resource Centre primarily targets business and business organisations operating in the developing world. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/business.html#RC-SDBP c) Development = Agency for promoting Sustainable Development Initiatives (ASDI) ASDI is committed to sustainable development by increasing incomes of poor agro-based groups in Apac district, Northern Uganda. This is done through appropriate training, savings, credit, marketing, team spirit and active participation with like minded organisations. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/development.html#ASDI d) ICT-related organisations = Center for Women and Information Technology The Center for Women and Information Technology aims to encourage more women and girls to become involved with information technology, both as knowledgeable users and as professionals in the field. The Center's web site, which ABCNews.com has called "the best resource on women and technology on the Web," has abundant ICT resources for women around the world. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/ictresources.html#CWIT = Computer Aid Computer Aid is one of the world's largest non profit suppliers of computers to schools and community organisations in the developing world. Based in the United Kingdom, Computer Aid has supplied computers to over 60 countries, helping to bridge the "digital divide" between rich and poor. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/ictresources.html#C-AID = IN-Uganda Launched in 2001, IN-Uganda is a national network of people involved in ICTs in Uganda. The network was initiated by the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) Country programme in Uganda which is evolving in the following subsections: education, local government and agriculture. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/ictresources.html#INUG = kubatana.net - The NGO Network Alliance Project The Zimbabwe NGO Network Alliance Project (NNAP) aims to strengthen the use of email and internet strategies in Zimbabwean NGOs and civil society organisations. The NNAP will make human rights and civic education information accessible to the general public from a centralised, electronic source: www.kubatana.net. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/ictresources.html#KNET e) Health = Saving Women's Lives Led by Family Care International, Saving Women's Lives aims to educate and raise awareness of the broad range of women's global health and rights issues, including reproductive health, safe motherhood, poverty and economic development, violence against women, women's social status and education. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/health.html#SWL-FCI f) International Women's Organisations = Asociatia Femeilor Din Romania - Women's Association of Romania Asociatia Femeilor Din Romania (AFR) is the first democratic organization for women that started during the December 1989 revolution, as a result of the necessity to organize, represent and defend Romanian women's rights. It is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organization, legally established in 1990. AFR has 9350 members in Bucharest and 20 branches in different Romanian counties. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/africa_int.html#AFR-WAR ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EVENTS & NEWS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ February 2002 = ATCnet seeking HIV-AIDS Stories Do you think you could help ATCnet with one of our projects - HIV-AIDS Stories. We are looking to learn about individuals, old and young, looking after orphans, doctors and nurses at little clinics, schoolchildren teaching about awareness, women taking control of the behavior change needs, companies being helpful, community initiatives, etc. http://www.wougnet.org/projectnews.html#ATCNET = Rockefeller Humanities Fellowship on "Facing Global Capital, Finding Human Security: A Gendered Critique" The National Council for Research on Women and the Center for the Study of Women and Society at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York announce a Rockefeller-funded humanities fellowship program, "Facing Global Capital, Finding Human Security: A Gendered Critique". Fellowships will be offered for 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 to selected activists, academics and policymakers. Applications for 2002/2003 are due 25 February 2002 (extended deadline). http://www.wougnet.org/projectnews.html#NCRW March 2002 = Second Africa Telehealth Conference, Kampala, Uganda. March 27 - 30, 2002 (new dates) ICTs have proven crucial for improved health administration and connectivity within the health sector; for supporting decision for curative health; and for improved distribution and reduced cost of medical supplies. However, the health sector in Africa still lags very much behind other sectors in application of these new technologies.
