DOCUMENTS ON WOMEN'S ISSUES IN UGANDA = Bibliography of Research on Uganda Women 1986-2001 The Bibliography of Research on Uganda Women 1986-2001 has been prepared for a new book entitled 'The New Women's Movement' in Uganda to be launched at the Women's Worlds 2002 Congress, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. The book is edited by Joy Kwesiga and Aili Tripp, and the bibliography is prepared by Sheela Jhaveri and Margaret Snyder. http://www.wougnet.org/documents.html#WomenBIB 2. LINKS AND RESOURCES a) About Women = Women's Studies Online Resources Women's Studies Online Resources is a guide to information-rich, high-quality web sites focusing on women's studies or women's issues. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/aboutwomen.html#WSOR b) Agriculture = CD-ROM in local languages for African rural women farmers with access to computers A new CD-ROM entitled "Rural Women in Africa: Ideas for Earning Money" tries to meet the demand of providing content material to use online once rural women have access to computers. Developed by the International Women's Tribune Centre (IWTC) in partnership with a technical team in Uganda and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) East and Southern Africa Office in Nairobi, it is intended for use by women with minimal education and only local language fluency. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/agriculture.html#IWTC_CD c) Business = Katungulu Ttaba Youths Forum Katungulu Ttaba Youths Forum's mission is to eradicate poverty among the youth in Katungulu Ttaba. In 1996, a fruit farm was started with mangoes, jack fruit, avocados and passion fruits. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/business.html#KTYF = PicoPeta Simputers Pvt. Ltd. PicoPeta is a Simputer solutions company. The primary business is to use the Simputer as a building block to provide large scale IT solutions to International clients. The Simputer is a low cost portable alternative to PCs. The goal of PicoPeta is to be the leader in the rapid deployment of large number of Simputers all over the world. The model is not that of selling Simputers as handheld computers to individual users. The Development Gateway is being built to promote the exchange of knowledge on a wide range of topics including the topic of gender. There are over 700 entries on gender such as articles, policy documents, case studies, and useful web sites. These resources address such topics as gender and ICT, gender and violence, gender and HIV/AIDS, gender and poverty reduction, and gender and food security. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/development.html#GenderDG = Generating Opportunities: Case Studies on Energy and Women Generating Opportunities: Case Studies on Energy and Women is a look at selected projects that address women and energy with a view towards extracting lessons about criteria for good project design and successful implementation that can be used to inform energy policies around the world. Included is a description of the Uganda Photovoltaic Pilot Project for Rural Electrification (UPPPRE). http://www.wougnet.org/Links/development.html#CSEW = Uganda Debt Network Uganda Debt Network (UDN) is an advocacy and lobbying coalition of Uganda NGOs, institutions and individuals formed in February 1996. Ugandaid is an initiative of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator. The site is intended to help, above all, the refugees, displaced, and victims of natural disasters and poverty in Uganda. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/development.html#UGANDAID e) Environment = Green Nature An interactive environment and nature news, information and photography destination. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/environment.html#GREEN = Strengthening Southern Involvment in the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002 The Danish 92 Group has launched the website www.rio10.dk, which aims to promote information sharing and coordination among the organizations and networks involved in the civil society preparations for the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) 2002. The Danish 92 Group is a coalition of 21 NGOs who consider it important to support the Summit preparations in 30 developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/environment.html#RIO10_DK f) ICT-related organisations = Gender and the Digital Divide Seminar Series The Gender and the Digital Divide Seminar Series web page of the World Bank looks at the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on gender issues and examines innovative ways that ICTs are being used to overcome gender inequalities and bridge the digital divide. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/ictresources.html#GDD_WB g) Human Rights = Conciliation Resources Conciliation Resources serves as an international resource for local organisations pursuing peace or conflict prevention initiatives. The principal objective is to support the sustained practical activities of those working at the community and national levels to prevent or transform violent conflict into opportunities for social, political and economic development based on more just relationships. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/rights.html#C-R = Women Refugees Project The Women Refugees Project is a non governmental organization directed by women for women refugees in Zambia. The Women Refugees Organization is focusing on challenges of how women refugees' rights can be respected. http://www.wougnet.org/Links/rights.html#WRP h) General = Aid Recovery Program: Cost-sharing car purchase The Aid Recovery Program is a cost-sharing car purchase program of the Mobile Outreach Ministry, based in the United States. Mobile Outreach Ministry is a non-profit organization that was founded almost 20 years ago. Their mission is to prevent conflict in order to save lives, eliminate suffering, and ultimately attain peace and development in Africa.
