1. WOMEN ORGANISATIONS IN UGANDA

= The Coalition for Political Accountability to Women (COPAW)   
    COPAW is a loose coalition of non-partisan women activists and 
    academicians interested in supporting women's entry and 
    participation into politics both as voters and as elected 
    members. COPAW was launched by EASSI with support from   
    Isis-WICCE.

2. DOCUMENTS ON WOMEN'S ISSUES IN UGANDA

= Ugandan Feminism: Political Rhetoric or Reality?
   (Barbara Mbire-Barungi, Economics Department, Makerere University)
   Ugandan Feminism: Political Rhetoric or Reality? discusses the 
   issues involved in constructing feminisms in a global context, 
   while recognising women's diverse cultural backgrounds and local 
   priorities. Focusing on the Ugandan context, the relationships 
   between feminisms at local, national, and international levels 
   are explored.

3. WOMEN & AGRICULTURE

= FAO's Integrated Support to Sustainable Development and Food 
   Security Programme (IP)
    IP was initiated in March 1998, with funding from the 
    governments of Norway and Finland. The aim of the IP is to 
    promote  synergy through interdisciplinary collaboration and   
    information-sharing across and in support of ongoing rural    
   development programmes. Gender is mainstreamed throughout the    
   programme, and several of the activities involve capacity-building 
   in relation to gender.

= Society for Health, Environment and Women Development (SHEWD) 
    Since its founding in 1998, SHEWD has been dedicated to working
    for the interests of the poor in the community on issues of
    health, literacy, and women's empowerment. SHEWD is based in
    Lalitpur, near Kathmandu, Nepal.

March 2002
= Women and Environment Conference in preparation of RIO+10
    The Uganda Women Tree Planting Movement (UWTPM) is organising a
    global meeting in March 2002 in preparation for RIO+10. UWTPM is a
    member of the international network on women and environment,
    which came as a result of the UNCED process.

July 2002
= Women's Worlds 2002: The 8th International Interdisciplinary 
    Congress on Women, July 21-26, 2002 (Second announcement)
    The congress is organized around the main theme "Gendered Worlds:
    Gains and Challenges". This theme provides an opportunity for a
    broad reflection on the state of women and gender issues from a
    gendered perspective within the context of change.

= Know How Conference on the World of Women's Information
    The Know How Conference 2002 will be held within Women World's
    2002 program from 23-26 July, 2002 in Kampala, Uganda. This will
    be the 5th conference of specialists in the collection and
    dissemination of information relevant to women. The conference is
    being organized by Isis-Women's International Cross-Cultural
    Exchange (Isis-WICCE) assisted by the International Information
    Center and Archives for the Women's Movement (IIAV) in Amsterdam.
