Dear friends
This newsletter is a brief listing of some prayer
for our ministry in the coming
months.
Pray for me as I travel to Kenya to train key youth
leaders in the cities of Nairobi and Homma Bay (on Lake Victoria) from the 13th
to the 20th of November. This is our fourth and final stage of ministry
development in Kenya and we will be looking to release nationals to multiply our
training (based on the life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ all across the
country). Pray for those that I am travelling with (Doug Holliday from Florida
in the USA, and John Abrahamse, the director of J-Life Ministries in South
Africa). Pray that God would give us wisdom as we choose and release the right
trainers and coaches. Pray for our families as they stay behind - that they
would be safe and know God's presence and enabling while we are
away.
Pray for me as I seek to balance my role within
Sonlife Africa and that of youth ministry in my local church. I am implementing
the strategy Jesus used for disciplemaking in a church in Johannesburg (His
People Christian Church) as a youth pastor in order to continually refine what
we train, coach and mentor across the continent of Africa. I have been in the
position for two months now and already we are starting to train teen shepherds
to oversee the ministry, training believers and workers to share their faith
with their lost peers, involving teens in service projects and presenting weekly
evangelistic events aimed at leading seekers into a personal relationship with
Jesus Christ.
Pray for Sonlife Africa as we merge our ministry
into our sister organisation, known as J-life Ministries (The J stands for
Jesus). The merger should take about six months to complete and will mean that
Sonlife across the continent assumes a greater depth as we develop training
centres in key cities across the continent and look to train and release
coaching teams (a new aspect of our ministry outside of South Africa where for
the past five years coaching teams have been trained and sent into local
churches to compliment the Sonlife training). We believe that our organisations
will be able to accomplish so much more together instead of working alongside
each other.
Looking ahead to December
(4th to 14th), I would covet your prayers as I make the long and arduous
trip to Sierra Leone on the West Coast of Africa (a full day trip via Kenya in
East Africa) and then a full day drive through the most challenging roads in the
universe to the Eastern most part of Sierra Leone where the civil war started
and ended earlier in this decade. I will be training pastors and youth leaders
in Kailahun (a place largely untouched by Christian training organisations) and
then launching our ministry in a new location - a city outside the capital
Freetown.
