The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) is honored to invite your participation in

the 3rd Global Summit on Peace through Tourism being held at the award winning Royal Cliff Beach Resort, Pattaya, Thailand, October 2-5, 2005. 

 

The Summit is in support of the UN Decade of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World and the UN Millennium Development Goals. It is being organized by the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT); supported by the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB); and with the support of the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

 

Summit Theme:

One Earth, One Family: Travel and Tourism - Serving a Higher Purpose

 

Aim:

The Aim of the Summit is to develop a 21st Century Agenda for Peace through Tourism that addresses key global issues of our time.

 

Summit Goals:

1.       Provide a forum for government, industry, donor agency, and NGO decision makers, as well as leading educators, researchers, professionals and practitioners to debate and build consensus on the contribution of the world’s largest industry to key global issues including:

    • A sustained travel industry response to economic and social re-vitalization of tsunami affected areas;
    • Poverty reduction;
    • Healing the wounds of conflict;
    • Promoting cultural and international understanding, tolerance, and cooperation;
    • Ecological enhancement and preservation of biodiversity.

 

2.       Facilitate strategic partnerships and alliances among governments, the private sector, donor agencies, and NGOs to achieve these goals.

 

3.       Demonstrate and share information on current initiatives that are contributing to a 21st Century Agenda for Peace through Tourism.

 

4.       Support the Pacific Asia Travel Association in promoting the message that tourists to Tsunami affected countries are assured of a warm welcome; and that their visit sends an authentic message of caring, solidarity, and support for recovery.

 

Program:

In addition to plenary sessions with prominent keynote speakers, the Summit program includes concurrent sessions with presentations of “Success Stories” and “Models of Best Practice” on a range of topics.  

 

Also, a series of special Forums and Meetings are scheduled for Sunday, October 2nd. Forums are: Educators Forum - Youth Leadership Forum - Young Professionals Forum – and Forums on Community Tourism -Inter-Faith Dialogue- and, Cultural Tourism.    

 

Meetings of the IIPT Coalition of Partners for World Peace through Tourism, and IIPT Chapters will also be held on Sunday, October 2nd

 

All registered delegates are welcome to both the forums and meetings.

 

Call for Success Stories & Best Practices

Persons interested in presenting a “Success Story” or Model of “Best Practice” in all but the Educators Forum are welcome to send a one page abstract to: amy@xxxxxxxx.  Abstracts are requested by June 30.

The Call for Papers of the Educators Forum has been completed and papers are now being selected.

 

Participants:

The 3rd Global Summit will bring together senior executives from all sectors of the travel and tourism industry, public and private; donor agencies and NGO’s; leading educators, researchers, practitioners, entrepreneurs, future leaders of the industry; and senior representatives from related sectors including: Culture, Sport, Environment, and Sustainable Economic Development.
