Good question.  As Adel mentioned, Abiword is also a good alternative.

OpenOffice.org is actually one application.  So what you will achieve will
be that when the .GUI is translated for the .Writer, other things will be
partially translated at the same time.

This is based on OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 not on the latest version, 2.4.  But
it might be possible to ask someone to create such a build. I'll check on
that.

It seems that the only pieces I have analysed are actually related to
.Writer, so that serves you well.
