[PAL-en] FW: IDRC's efforts on Localization in Africa

IDRC/CRDI is facilitating the development of new project proposals for
localization in Africa. This follows on the workshop held in Marrakech,
Morocco, in February of this year.

On October 1, .Adel.El.Zaim wrote to the group to outline a new approach. I
am forwarding some key e-mail to facilitate discussion.

Dear friends

In order to accelerate the development of the Localisation project that IDRC
would like to see in Africa, we requested the service of our friend Dwayne
Bailey for the next two or three months.

We asked Dwayne to help us and the Work group to develop the Localisation
network in Africa by the following actions:

-       Prepare a list of projects, based on projects proposed in Marrakesh
(February 2007) and on new proposed projects, and assuring a good coverage
of regions, languages and domains of application (standards, policy,
software, advocacy).

-       Define 3 year scope: with associated projects and their strategic
impact. This within a framework that links projects together to tell the
whole localisation story.

-       Scope sub-projects with selected partners: writing the first draft
expected outcomes, motivation, etc. for each sub-project. 

-       Select partners and participate in scoping the project with the
selected partners.

-       Defined a global project: create a full overview of the global
project.

-       Define collaborative project: define the scope of the collaborative
component of the project, including common activities, website,
dissemination, repository, etc.**

- Review and assist with writing sub-project proposals with the selected
partners.


I am sure the work group we created in Marrakesh will be of help to Dwayne
and he will help all colleagues aiming to develop their ideas into concrete
projects.

Also, I am confident that all Marrakesh group members will participate and
develop projects.
