To NGOs interested:

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
launched a new volunteer service involving assignments in developing countries,
in late 2007. The idea behind the volunteer service is the successful formula
of “learning by serving” and its aims are twofold:
 to achieve added developmental value for the partner projects in terms
of help towards self-help, and
 to spark new interest in development issues in Germany.

The new volunteer service will make an effective contribution to development
policy information and education work in terms of “global learning” and towards
nurturing a new generation of development workers. Volunteers are expected to
learn about intercultural communication, socio-cultural cooperation and social
responsibility, all valuable skills in an increasingly globalised learning and
working environment. The volunteer service will also help to reinforce civil
society structures in the developing countries and in Germany.

In partnership with the BMZ, the African Youth Foundation is entitled to send
volunteers to some of its partners in some African countries. Partner
organisations in Africa, who are interested in receiving volunteers, could
please sign in at: http://www.afribase.net/sign_org.php

Partner organisations are expected to contribute substantially to the
programme. Organisations are expected to be able to provide for volunteers:
 Working space
 Experienced mentors
 Local travel expenses eg. travel cost to filed projects, meetings, etc.

Volunteers travel, accommodation and insurance expenses will be taken care of
by the organisers. The voluntary service will be minimum 6 months and maximum
24 months, of which 12 to 18 months will be the standard norm.

Volunteers are not to replace normal workers.

Interested projects will be published on our website at:
