Hi All, do we really want to solve our problems? Unfortunately I don't get that feeling. I think our leaders want the world bank, imf, the colonialist etc., to solve our problems for us. Just an example: When I started secondary education in Koforidua, Ghana; in 1975, we were having severe water shortages despite being a few tens of kilometers from one of the greatest man made lakes the world over. What is worrying is a quarter of a century later this regional capital is still beset with this problem whilst the water from the lake drains into the sea. Our political leaders have been globe trotting seeking aid, grants and loans to fix these problems. Couldn't we have dug channels over 27 years? Fabricated and laid Concrete Pipes, install pumps, or done whatever needed to be done? I dug my first well in my village when I was in the middle school, about 12 years old then. It later became big enough to serve the whole village during the dry seasons. A few years later the World Vision (an international NGO) built a concrete well a few meters from it; not the government, not the local authority. I think once every year all our political leaders should be hauled to Sudan and Egypt to tour the sites of the ancient civilizations to see how far advanced our ancestors were compared to us. Our greatest problem is not the injustices which is being, and were perpetrated against us years ago, but our unwillingness, failure or refusal to help ourselves. Best Wishes to All of U. Long Live Africa, We shall overcome. Solomon Asare. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
