In June 2001 when we started the AYF mailing list, our aim was to be able to reach about 200 interested participants, who could discuss development issues in Africa by the end of the year. The group has been quite active and we are very glad to announce that, we achieved this measure in a matter of four months. As at mid October 2001, the AYF mailing list had more than 200 subscribers. Thank you all for your participation. Our next move toward the direction of the way ahead of us, is an on-line discussion which we are launching to explore new work on the topic of IT Training and development education for the youth in Africa. The purpose of this on-line discussion is to gather broad-based participation in the development of a proposal to fund projects in this area. The on-line discussion will last for six weeks starting from 29 October 2001, and will be conducted in three segments. During the first two sessions (each ten days in length) the link between IT training and its impact in Africa will be explored. At the end of each session, a summary of the discussion will be posted. There will be a one-week pause (If necessary) while the moderators prepare a draft project proposal. The final session will be dedicated to a discussion of the Employment proposal. The proposal, revised in light of the previous week's discussion and other material, will be presented for further consideration at the Second International Conference to be held in Bonn, Germany from 4 ? 6 June, 2001. From this debate a final agenda will be determined.
