Dear Mr. Michael,

Thank you for your interest in AYF?s activities and development. It was
unfortunate you couldn?t participate in our last Symposium in May 2001, but We
hope to meet you in our future meetings.

The African Youth Foundation(AYF) is a non-profit development organisation,
created to aid young people in Africa, as well as African Nationals in
Europe, especially unemployed African graduates to undertake projects which will
enable them obtain skills necessary for their future livelihoods.

The organisation's mandate is to promote youth education for African
Nationals in Europe and in Africa, with a view to mobilising and developing the
talents of the youth to contribute more meaningfully to national and global
development. A concept which will motivate the youth to begin their own
enterprises particularly in the informal sectors, other than migrating to other
countries.

We are disseminating more information from Ghana at present because that is
where our pilot project on IT and Leadership training will be commencing. The
project has been scheduled to expand to Uganda and Kenya, and with resources
permitting, to Tanzania. For your information, one of our Board members,
Ambassador Gertrude Mongella, is a Tanzanian who is very active in youth issues
on the continent and doing her best to set some of our projects as the Apis
in Tanzania.

To assist us function as an organisation for all Africans, we shall be very
grateful if you could take stock and appraise the work done so far, to
reinforce our commitments, to refuel our energy for action and to help change
the
youth of Africa for the better, by supporting us with your articles and
comments on how the AYF could constructively implement measures and actions for
the
good of the youth of Africa.

Let me finally say a last word about the desegregated approach toward AYF?s
goals. As a leader of an organisation with a lot of budget difficulties, I
sometimes feel my shoulders slump at night. As a leader of an organisation
which has an extraordinary developmental ability to move between North and
South, between public and private, to act as a champion for the interests of the
youth of Africa and yet have no access to the most senior levels in the
North, I feel an extraordinary sense of responsibility and an extraordinary
sense
of challenge, and a real belief that these could be the golden years of AYF.
If we get it right!

I appeal to you to keep moving on with us until our mission is achieved and
let's not only focus on projects being set in Ghana or Tanzania, but anywhere
in Africa.

Regards

Paulyn Jansen
Executive Director
