This item concerning GKP (.Global.Knowledge.Partnership) in Africa may be of
interest. I am not sure whether they consider localization. The "GK3"
conference that is mentioned in the article will be held in KualaLumpur on
11-13 December 2007. See http://www.gkpeventsonthefuture.org/gk3/

GKP Africa Sets to Marshall Resources for Project Success

Members in the GKP Africa Regional Network gathered together recently for a
hands-on workshop on project resource mobilisation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The capacity-building training session, which ran for two days from 23 ? 24
January 2007, was organised by GKP Regional Coordinator, and the United
Nations Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA), with the support of the GKP
Secretariat.

According to UNECA, the workshop was held so that members in the region
could substantively review all the submissions they had made in the
framework of the GKP Africa Regional Workplan, and come up with concrete and
relevant projects for the purpose of seed funding.

GKP members who participated in the hands-on training were Protégé QV, Slums
Information Development and Resource Centers (SIDAREC), Azur Développement,
Fantsuam Foundation, Lagos Digital Village, National Productivity and
Competitiveness Council, Mauritius (NPCC), SchoolNet Africa, Association for
Progressive Communications (APC) and the Ministry of Communications and
Information Technology, Egypt (MCIT).

At the workshop, the participating members examined prospective projects and
partnerships for the region and successfully identified five promising
proposals:
? Volunteering Online for GKP Members ? Protégé QV
? African Youth Capacity Building for ICT4D Social Enterprises ? Protégé QV,
Lagos Digital Village, SIDAREC, UNECA and Azur Développement
? Empowering the local communities in Nigeria and Senegal in the use of ICTs
through the use of open distance learning (ODL) ? Fantsuam Foundation,
SchoolNet Africa and APC
? English Literacy using IT (ELIT) ? NPCC, with potential partners, the
Ministry of Women's Rights and the Ministry of Education of Mauritius, the
Mauritius Research Council, and British Council.
? Africa Regional Meeting in preparation for GKP?s 3rd Global Knowledge
Conference (GK3)

In a fitting finish to the resource mobilisation programme, the participants
were given tips on how to successfully approach potential donors by Sara
Foryt from Microsoft. Finally, GKP Secretariat provided the group with
updates on GK3 and tips on how they can maximise their engagement in the
upcoming conference in December this year.
