Not that anyone's counting, but this list, which was originally
set up as a temporary working group, has now been functioning for 6 years. Aside
from addressing individual questions and providing a forum on which to share news
and ideas, it represents a significant information resource on technical
support for African languages in ICT - for the "Africanization"
(A12n) of various ICTs.
The list traffic is archived in three places:
1) on the list homepage since 2002 http://lists.kabissa.org/lists/archives/public/a12n-collaboration/
2) on Linguist list since Sept. 2004 http://linguistlist.org/lists/get-list-detail.cfm?List=1894
3) and on a Yahoogroup (along with other A12n lists) also
going back to late 2004, at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/a12n-archives/
The topic and community of subscribers overlap somewhat with
the PanAfrican Localisation project list, PAL-en, but they are somewhat
different and complementary.
I still have not gotten to the point of implementing a
change of the list name and preserving the archives of the first 6 years in a
different format. However these things are on the agenda.
Thanks for your participation and I look forward to
traversing new frontiers in A12n technical topics with you all in the coming
years.
