Dear Karl,
Unicode contains a "French franc symbol" (U+20A3, ₣, like a F with a
second horizontal stroke).
Is this currency symbol in actual use anywhere (especially in the
countries using the CFA franc)?
I've spent 20 years in Togo and Benin and have never seen this symbol used for the CFA franc. It's always listed as "F" or "FCFA". I asked a Beninese colleague and he said he'd never seen the symbol.
